France to freeze assets of JeM chief Masood Azhar

France on Friday decided to freeze all assets of Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, JeM chief Masood Azhar, the French government said.

“France has always been and always will be by India’s side in the fight against terrorism,” the Foreign Office statement said.

France has decided to list Masood Azhar at the national level by freezing his assets in an application of the Monetary and Financial Code.

A French Foreign Office statement said that France would raise the issue with its European partners with a view to including Masood Azhar on the European Union list of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts, based on this decree.

The decision came after China blocked the UNSC bid to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) had claimed responsibility of the Pulwama terror attack that killed at least 40 CRPF jawans on February 14.
