Rockets slammed into an Iraqi airbase north of Baghdad where US troops have been based, wounding at least four Iraqi troops. the Iraqi military said on Sunday.
However, there was no immediate information about any American casualties.
According to the sources, around six rockets landed on Al Balad base, which is the main airbase for Iraq’s F-16s.
A majority of US airmen stationed at the Al Balad airbase, had already left, sources added.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday said he was outraged by another missile attack on an Iraqi airbase where US forces have been stationed.
“Outraged by reports of another rocket attack on an Iraqi airbase. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured and call on the Government of #Iraq to hold those responsible for this attack on the Iraqi people accountable,” Pompeo tweeted.
“These continued violations of Iraq’s sovereignty by groups not loyal to the Iraqi government must end,” Pompeo added.
Last week, Iran launched missile attacks on two Iraqi airbases housing US and other coalition forces in retaliation for the killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a US drone strike in Baghdad.
