Former Gujarat BJP MLA Jayantilal Bhanushali was on Monday night shot dead by unknown assailants when he was travelling from Bhuj to Ahmedabad in Sayji Nagri Express.
The incident happened between Kataria-Surbari railway stations. Bhanushali was travelling in the AC first class compartment where unknown assailants barged in and shot him. One bullet hit his chest, another damaged one of his eyes.
The railway authorities later stopped the train at Maliya station where his body was recovered from the train.
An investigation into the case has been launched by the police.
