Basavaraj Bommai sworn in as new chief minister of Karnataka

Basavaraj Bommai 61, sworn in as the 30th Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 28. He took the oath in the name of God in the presence of several BJP prominent leaders.

The former state Home Minister belongs to the powerful Lingayat community of Karnataka.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy, in the presence of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders,  including former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh.

After he took the oath at Raj Bhawan, Bomai told reporters –  My first priority is the ongoing flood and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also said “I would like to thank all the people of Karnataka and BJP leaders for giving me this opportunity to serve the State Chief Minister.  I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda and our leader BS Yediyurappa for choosing me.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates new Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on his twitter handle, he tweeted: “He brings with him rich legislative and administrative experience. I am confident he will build on the exceptional work done by our government in the state. Best wishes for a fruitful tenure.”
