Congress MP MI Shanavas passes away at 67

MI Shanavas, the working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Member of Parliament (MP) from Wayanad, passed away in a hospital in Chennai in the early hours of Wednesday.He was 67.

According to the reports, Shanavas, who was undergoing treatment in a speciality hospital following a lung transplant, passed away following a deterioration in health.

His mortal remains will be brought to Kochi on Wednesday afternoon. The last rites are expected to be held on Thursday.

Shanavas was elected to the Lok Sabha from Wayanad in 2009 and in 2014.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed grief over the demise of Shanavas.

“Mourning the loss of my LokSabha colleague MI Shanavas of Wayanad. He was ailing for some time. A man of good heart & spirit, I last saw him on his appointment as one of @INCKerala’s Working Presidents. A painful loss for all of us. My thoughts & prayers are with his family.” Tharoor tweeted.
