Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The 37-year-old joined the party in the presence of Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi.
“It is a significant induction,” said Arun Jaitley.
Gambhir said that he has been influenced by PM Modi’s vision for the country and through this platform he can do something more for the country.
According to the sources, Gambhir may contest from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, currently held by the party’s Meenakshi Lekhi.
When asked if Gambhir would contest from a Lok Sabha seat in Delhi, Arun Jaitley said “leave the decision to the party’s election committee”.
