At least five senior citizens were killed in a major fire that engulfed the top floors of a residential building, Mumbai’s Chembur area on Thursday evening, officials said.
The fire broke out on the 10th floor of the Sangam building and quickly spread upwards, trapping many of the residents there, in Tilak Nagar suburb of northeast Mumbai.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
Of the seven people who were rushed to the Hospital in Ghatkopar, five were pronounced dead
The victims have been identified as Sunita Joshi, Bhalchandra Joshi, Suman Shrinivas Joshi, Sarala Suresh Gangar and Lakshmiben Premji Gangar.
