Nine people who were trapped inside a hydroelectric plant in Telangana which had caught fire late last night have lost their lives in a fire mishap.
A major fire broke out on Thursday night Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited’s hydel power station at Srisailam’s dam left bank.
A short-circuit is suspected to have caused the fire.
The fire engine was called from a Fire Station in Atmakur of Kurnool district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident.
“Fire at the Srisailam hydroelectric plant is deeply unfortunate. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi tweeted.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in a tweet said, “Distressed by the loss of lives in a fire incident at Srisailam hydroelectric plant in Telangana. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Deeply anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to tragic fire accident at the Srisailam hydroelectric plant in Telangana. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has ordered a CID inquiry into the fire incident.
