The Election Commission (EC)on Saturday imposed a 48-hour campaigning ban on Kapil Mishra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Delhi’s Model Town constituency following his controversial tweets, officials said.
The ban order would come into force from 5 pm on Saturday, officials added.
While Twitter had taken down one of his controversial ‘India vs Pak’ tweets on Friday following directions of the EC, an FIR was lodged against him for creating enmity among classes.
In a series of provocative tweets posted on Thursday, Mishra had said Pakistani rioters had taken over the streets of Delhi.
“Pakistan has made its entry in Shaheen Bagh. Mini Pakistans are being formed in Delhi. Indian law is not being followed in Shaheen Bagh, Chandbagh, Indralok,” he had said.
In another post, he had said there will be a contest on Delhi streets between India and Pakistan on February 8.
