Dr. Arif Alvi elected as the new President of Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Dr. Arif Alvi was elected as the new President of Pakistan on Tuesday.

Confirming the news of Alvi’s election as the President of Pakistan, PTI official account tweeted, “Congratulations Pakistan! Dr. Arif Alvi Elected as President Of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

“With Great Respect and Pride,You have won the much desired position. We heartily “CONGRATULATE” you. We all trust you and your powers,We are sure you are going to be a great President,” PTI said in another tweet.

Newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan took to his tweeter account to congratulate Alvi and tweeted an old picture of him with the newly elected President, he said, “When our world was younger! Congratulations to Dr Alvi on being elected President.” 

Dr. Alvi was contesting against joint opposition candidate JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP candidate Aitzaz Ahsan. 

According to the unofficial results, Ali has received 353 electoral votes, Fazlur Rehman 184 and Aitzaz Ahsan 123 votes.

Speaking to reporters, the newly elected President said, he was thankful to Almighty Allah that the PTI nominee was elected as the president.

He also thanked party chairman and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan for reposing his confidence in him.

The tenure of outgoing President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain will end on September 8.

Polling stations for the Presidential election were set up in the Parliament House and the four provincial assemblies where the Senate members, NA and MPAs took part in the voting process.
