A newly created Instagram account calling itself the “Dimagi Naxal Party” has rapidly gained attention online, attracting more than 1.7 lakh followers within days of its launch. The account emerged shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the term “dimagi Naxals” during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
The account, identified as @dimaginaxalpartyy, describes itself as the official page of the “Dimagi Naxal Party” and uses the slogan “Think, Research, Resist.” Its bio lists the founder as “A Dimagi Indian” and the co-founder as “56 Inch ka.” The identity of the individuals or group operating the account has not been disclosed.
The page reportedly had around 65 posts and was following 35 accounts. Among the accounts it followed were comedian Kunal Kamra, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, actor Prakash Raj, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, journalist Ravish Kumar and activist Sonam Wangchuk. It also directed followers to an X account identified as @DNJP_India.
The account briefly became unavailable on Monday, with reports saying that it had claimed through its stories that it was targeted by cyberattacks. It later returned online with a message saying “we are back.”
The rapid growth of the account comes amid a political debate over Prime Minister Modi’s use of the term “dimagi Naxals.” Congress leader P. Chidambaram subsequently said he was “proud” to be described by the term, drawing a sharp response from the BJP.
The account’s emergence highlights how political statements can quickly translate into new social-media trends and online campaigns.
