The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new team of national office-bearers under party president Nitin Nabin, nearly seven months after he took charge as the party’s national president. The reshuffle brings several experienced leaders back into key organisational positions while also introducing new faces.
Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed a national general secretary with charge of Uttar Pradesh. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also been appointed national general secretary. Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have been retained in the general secretary team, while Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia are among the other general secretaries.
The BJP has appointed 13 national vice-presidents, including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav and Baijayant Jay Panda.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, while Rajesh Mangal will serve as joint treasurer. B.L. Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), with Shivprakash and Saudan Singh as joint general secretaries (organisation).
The new organisational structure also includes 16 national secretaries and changes in several organisational and media responsibilities. Anil Baluni has been retained as media in-charge, while Tarun Chugh has been given charge as central office in-charge.
The reshuffle comes ahead of several important Assembly elections, including Uttar Pradesh, and is expected to shape the BJP’s organisational strategy and election preparations in the coming months.
