A sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Rajasthan, Gyan Dev Ahuja quit the party after being denied a ticket for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections.
Ahuja, the lawmaker from Ramgarh said he will contest as an Independent candidate from Sanganer.
“My name was dropped by the party without taking me into confidence. I was not even told about the reason why my name was dropped. After pressure from my family members and supporters, I resigned from the party. Now I will contest the elections from the Sanganer seat,” Ahuja said.
“I had demanded a ticket from Sanganer after the other candidate was given the ticket from Ramgarh, but the party refused me. Therefore, I decided to contest as an independent candidate,” he added.
He is the same leader who hit headlines in 2016, when he said, “thousands of condoms were found daily at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in New Delhi”.
