Demand for justice grows in alleged gang rape, murder of Civil Defence Officer

The uproar has become more vociferous on social media demanding justice for the 21-year-old Civil Defence Officer who was allegedly gang raped and murdered. The accused had disposed of the body in the forests of Surajkund on August 27 and subsequently surrendered at Kalindi Kunj police station.

The woman, a resident of Delhi’s Sangam Vihar was allegedly sexually exploited and murdered in Faridabad. She was reportedly picked up while returning from work in Lajpat Nagar.  A man, who claimed to be the woman’s husband, surrendered at Kalindi Kunj police station, taking responsibility for the gruesome act alleging that he was suspicious of her character, and hence murdered her.  The accused allegedly told the police that on August 27, he took the woman on his bike and slashed her neck, chest and head at a spot near Palli Road near Surajkund before dragging her body into the underbrush.

The Faridabad police undertook a search operation after being alerted by Delhi police, and retrieved the body from the bushes. The accused has been taken into custody.  The autopsy report stated the cause of the death as shock and hemorrhage due to the stab injuries that are antemortem in nature.

The woman’s family has demanded a CBI probe into the killing alleging that police did not investigate the case properly. “She had multiple stab wounds on different parts, even in the genital area. The brutality of the attack suggests she was assaulted before being murdered. It doesn’t seem like a single person did it, but it could be a full conspiracy.”
