The Election Commission on Wednesday ordered the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to remove Union minister Anurag Thakur and BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh from its list of star campaigners for 2020 Delhi elections.
The poll body’s order came after both leaders used provocative language during election rallies.
“Election Commission has ordered the removal of Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Sahib Singh from the list of star campaigners of Bhartiya Janata Party for the general elections to the Legislative Assembly of the NCT of Delhi with immediate effect and until further orders,” the EC said in a statement.
During an election rally here, Thakur was heard saying to the crowd to raise an incendiary slogan- ‘traitors should be shot at’.
West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh on Tuesday said: “Protesters gather at Shaheen Bagh will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters, kill them. There’s time today PM Modi and Amit Shah won’t come to save you tomorrow”.
