Delhi High Court gives weeks’ time to Nirbhaya convicts to exhaust legal options against execution

The convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will get one week to exercise all their legal remedies, after which the authorities should act, the Delhi High Court said on Wednesday.

The court dismissed the Centre’s plea challenging the trial court’s order staying the execution of the convicts.

“All the convicts have to be executed together, and not separately,” said Justice Suresh Kait, who was hearing the case.

On January 31, the Centre and the Delhi government had challenged the trial court’s order staying “till further orders” the execution of all the four convicts in the case who are lodged in Tihar Jail.
