COVID-19 cases in India rise to 2,97,535, Death toll at 8,498

India has so far registered 2,97,535 COVID-19 cases with 8,498 fatalities. There are 1,41,842 active cases while 1,47,194 have been cured/discharged, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

India has now taken the fourth spot in the list of nations worst hit by COVID-19.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 97,648 with 3,590 fatalities, according to Health Ministry.

Tamil Nadu continues to be the second-worst hit state with 38,716 Covid-19 cases and 349 deaths, followed by Delhi with 34,687 cases and 1,085 deaths, Gujarat – 22,032 cases and 1,385 fatalities.

A total of 53,63,445 samples have been tested as on June 12, of which 1,50,305 samples have been tested in last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
