Court fixes January 19 to consider chargesheet in JNU sedition case

A Delhi court on Tuesday fixed January 19 as the date for the consideration of the charge sheet filed against former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in the 2016 JNU sedition case.

The hearing was adjourned as Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat, who was scheduled to hear the matter, was on leave on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a sedition case lodged in 2016.

Moreover, the Delhi Police charged former students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans during an event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in February 2016 to commemorate the hanging of Afzal Guru, the mastermind of Parliament-attack.

A protest was held in JNU in February 2016, against death sentence given to Afzal Guru during which anti-national slogans were raised.
