All offices in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Pimpri Chinchwad in Maharashtra will be closed till March 31 to fight coronavirus, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Friday.
As the number of cases in Maharashtra climbed to 52, all shops have also been shut, only essential services will be operational.
The Chief Minister said all private companies have been told to let employees work from home, government offices in the state would operate at 25 per cent attendance.
CMO Maharashtra in a tweet said, “From this Midnight, all workplaces will remain closed till 31st March 2020. This is applicable in Mumbai, MMR Region, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Nagpur.”
“Only 25% of the employees will be attending Government offices The shops of essential commodities are excluded from this closure. These include foodgrains, milk, medicines etc. If there is any confusion in these cities, the District Collectors will inform,” the statement said.
“Banks will continue to function. Hon’ble CM has appealed to the establishments, shop owners that though you are closing your shops but do not stop paying the minimum wages to your hard working staff,” it added.
