China’s Coronavirus death toll nears 1500

Death toll in China’s coronavirus epidemic has risen to 1,483 with Hubei province, the epicentre of the outbreak, reporting 116 new fatalities, China’s health officials said on Friday.

So far more than 50000 people have been infected, the vast majority of them in China’s Hubei province.

Many countries have confirmed cases and several nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei. 

Three deaths have been recorded outside mainland China.

Passengers on a cruise ship that spent two weeks at sea disembarked in Cambodia on Friday.

Union Health Minister of India Harsh Vardhan on Thursday briefed media on Coronavirus Surveillance at Points of Entry is continuing at 21 Airports, 12 major ports, 65 minor ports and at 6 land crossings.

“Political commitment at the highest levels of the Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the government’s response against Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID2019). India is prepared through its various timely measures and sturdy systems of surveillance for Novel Coronavirus,” Dr Harsh Vardhan stated as he addressed a press conference on the status update, actions taken and preparedness on Novel Coronavirus disease in India.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that a high-level Group of Ministers has been constituted under his Chairmanship to monitor the situation.  He added that regular reviews are held with all related Ministries.

“We have good and effective co-ordination among ministries, robust surveillance system, network of laboratories to support diagnosis, upgraded medical facilities, trained health work force and media presence that can reach even remote areas. We have put all these resources at our disposal to prevent / contain outbreak of novel coronavirus in India”, he said.
