A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday reached the 19-year-old victim’s village Bulgadhi in Hathras and inspected the incident site.
According to reports, the victim’s brother was also brought to the incident site for investigation purpose. Ahead of CBI’s visit, the Uttar Pradesh police deployed personnel to maintain law and order in the area.
Earlier in the day, the victim’s family returned to their home after appearing before the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High court. The bench had taken suo moto notice of the incident.
CBI had officially taken over probe in the Hathras Case on October 11. The central government issued a notification on October 10 in this regard.
The Uttar Pradesh government on October 6 filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court over the Hathras incident, saying the court must direct a CBI investigation into the matter.
In its affidavit, the state government also requested the Top Court to monitor the CBI investigation into the case, alleging that “vested interests are attempting to ascribe motive to derail a fair probe”.
The Yogi-Adityanath government also said that a CBI probe in the case will ensure no vested interests will be able to create a fake, false narrative with oblique motives.
The 19-year-old woman died after she was allegedly gang-raped by four men of her village. All four accused have been arrested. The incident prompted outrage, protests and calls for justice.
