A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was martyred in the early hours of Tuesday, in a ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistani forces resorted to unprovoked firing on forward posts from across the LoC in the Samba sector and was effectively retaliated by the BSF jawans guarding the IB..
Heavy firing between the two sides continued for an hour during which a BSF constable – Devender Kumar – lost his life.
The incident came barely after 24 hours, when BSF noticed suspicious movement of a group of five persons, believed to be terrorists along the International Border in Hiranagar sector, prompting a high alert in Jammu.
Pakistan has repeatedly violated ceasefire agreement with India, with around 700 such incidents this year alone. There has been intense border skirmishes, which led to many casualties and forced civilians to flee their homes.
