Bihar: Former Mayor Samir Kumar, driver shot dead in Muzaffarpur

In a shocking incident in Bihar, unidentified assailants on Sunday shot dead former Muzaffarpur Mayor Samir Kumar and his driver.

The incident took place in the evening near the Banaras Bank Chowk in Muzaffarpur when Samir Kumar and his driver, who were travelling in their car were overtaken by a motorcycle.

The criminals forced the driver to stop the car and started firing indiscriminately at Kumar and his driver using AK-47 and fled the spot, police said.

Samir Kumar and his driver died at the spot.

“We are investigating the case. More than 17 rounds using AK 47 were fired in this incident. Several empty bullet cartridges were recovered from the crime scene. We are scanning through the CCTV footage to identify the criminals,” DSP, Muzaffarpur said.

The forensic science laboratory team reached the spot to collect forensic evidence/samples from the site, he said.

The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem, he added.

Further investigations are underway.
