Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation amid the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country. India is seeing an exponential spike in its Covid-19 cases, while deaths too are increasing.
PM Modi said, “In today’s situation, we have to save the country from lockdown. I appeal to the states that they should use lockdown as the last option. Try as much as possible to protect yourselves from lockdown. Focus on micro-containment zones.”
After interacted with vaccine manufacturers of the country and urged them to continuously scale up their production capacity so that all Indians could be vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as possible.
While addressing the nation on the Covid-19 situation, PM Modi assured that the government is trying to meet the demand for oxygen, beds in hospitals across the country.
“I appeal to the state governments that they take the migrant workers in confidence and urge them to stay where they are and not return home. The assurance from the states that they will soon be vaccinated wherever they are currently will help them a lot,” PM Modi said.
India now has more than 2 million (20 lakh) officially recorded active cases of Covid-19, currently the second-highest number in the world after the US.
