Union Minister Arun Jaitley resumed the office of the finance minister on Friday, nearly three weeks after he relinquished the portfolio on January 23 to undergo treatment in the United States.
In Jaitley’s absence, minister for railways and coal Piyush Goyal has been acting as the finance minister. Goyal presented the Interim Budget on February 1.
He is currently attending a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to discuss the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama that left nearly 44 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) dead and many critically injured.
Jaitley tweeted on Thursday, “Attack on CRPF in #Pulwama, J&K is a cowardice & condemnable act of terrorists. Nation salutes martyred soldiers and we all stand united with families of martyrs. We pray for speedy recovery of the injured. Terrorists will be given unforgettable lesson for their heinous act.”
