Army Chief to visit Jammu and Kashmir today

General Upendra Dwivedi, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir today in his first official trip since assuming office.

General Dwivedi took over as India’s 30th Army Chief on June 30, succeeding General Manoj Pande, who retired after over four decades of distinguished service.

During his visit, General Dwivedi will inspect army formations in Jammu and visit operational areas where he will interact with the troops. He will also review the security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

General Dwivedi, an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), has had a distinguished military career spanning 40 years. Commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles (JAKRIF) in 1984, he is the first officer from JAKRIF to rise to the position of Army Chief.
