Authorities at Hong Kong airport on Tuesday suspended all check-ins after pro-democracy protesters blocked the facility.
A statement on the airport website said, “Terminal operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, and all check-in processes have now been suspended.”
“All passengers are advised to leave the terminal buildings as soon as possible,” it added.
“The Airport Authority of Hong Kong has advised that all check-in services for departing flights have been suspended. Passengers are advised not to proceed to the airport,” Cathay Pacific said in a tweet.
Protesters had mainly occupied the arrival halls. But some entered the departure area, forcing authorities to take the unprecedented step of cancelling of all arriving and departing flights.
