Actor Payal Ghosh on Monday joined Union Minister Ramdas Athawale’s Republican Party of India (Athawale).
She joined the party along with some others in the presence of party chief Ramdas Athawale.
According to the sources, Payal Ghosh has been named as the vice president of women’s wing of the party.
Athawale said the entry of Ghosh and others into the party would strengthen it.
Ghosh had recently accused Anurag Kashyap of sexual misconduct, a charge denied by the filmmaker.
She had also met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari, demanding action against the filmmaker.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Versova Police station on September 22 after the actor approached the police.
Payal in her complaint to the police said that Kashyap called her to his house located at Yari Road, Andheri, Mumbai on the pretext of giving her work in his movie. When she went there, Kashyap took her to a separate room and sexually assaulted her.
Following her complaint, a case under Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty,), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of Indian Penal Code was registered.
