Seven people were killed and two injured on July 11 due to in heavy rains in Dehradun, the capital of Uttrakhand.
Following the thunderstorm and heavy rain alert, the government has also issued an order to close down all the government schools and anganwadi centres.
Teams of Incident Response System (IRS), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force have been informed, said Senior Superintendent of Police Nivedita Kukreti while confirming the deaths.
The authorities have put the city on alert and asked people to take precautions.
“Due to heavy rains, drains have overflowed at several places. IRS, NDRF and SDRF teams have been informed. The police are out in the field with their teams. We have evacuated the people who were trapped, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Two more bodies have been recovered in different parts of the city, their kins have been informed. One more person was reported dead, the search for the body is on,” said the SSP.
