A 25-year-old Indian youth was among the three people who were killed, when a gunman opened fire at a bank in the US state of Ohio on Thursday.
Pruthviraj Kandepi, who hailed from Andhra Pradesh and two others, Luis Felipe Calderon and Richard Newcomer were killed by the gunman identified as Omar Perez, 29.
Perez was later shot dead by the police.
Five others were also injured in the incident that took place at the headquarters of the Fifth Third Bank near Fountain Square, Cincinnati.
His family in Tenali town was shocked after deceased’s friends informed them about the incident over the phone.
Officials of India’s Consul General in New York said that the consulate was also in touch with Kandepi’s family.
According to an official of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), Kandepi was working with the bank as a consultant.
He further added that arrangements were being made to send his body to India.
“Officers responded to a 911 call around 9:10 am local time about an “active shooter” at the bank”, said by the Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac.
Perez had gone to several businesses before going to the bank, he said
Perez had opened fire in the building’s loading dock before continuing into the lobby area and firing more shots, Isaac added.
Yesterday’s incident was the second this year where an Indian was shot dead in the US.
