Twenty-four migrants were killed and several injured after the truck they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya on Saturday morning.
The injured were admitted to hospital for further treatment.
The workers were coming from Rajasthan and were on their way to their native places in different states.
The accident took place around 3.30 am on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the unfortunate incident in UP’s Auraiya and has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the migrants who lost their lives.
The chief minister has also directed that all the injured be provided medical care immediately.
“The death of migrant workers in a road accident in Auraiya district is unfortunate and sad, my condolences to the bereaved families of the dead,” Adityanath tweeted.
“Instructions have also been given to provide all possible relief to the victims, to provide proper treatment to the injured and to promptly investigate the accident,” he added.
Migrants walking home amid the novel coronavirus lockdown have been involved in several accidents across the country in recent days.
