India lost many veterans of their respective fields last year. Su-
shma Swaraj, who was the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s
foreign policy as India’s external affairs minister for five years, died
in August. Another cabinet minister Arun Jaitley also passed away
this. Eminent lawyer and politician Ram Jethmalani also died last
year. The mystery behind the death of CCD owner VG Siddhartha • Bajrang Punia
is yet to be resolved. Other key personalities who died included awarded Rajiv Gandhi
Vashishtha Narayan Singh, a mathematician who challenged Ein- Khel Ratna Award 2019
stein’s theory; TN Seshan, ex-Chief Election Commissioner; three-
time Delhi CM Sheila Dixit; Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
and former defence minister George Fernandes.
