US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he will not participate in the presidential debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden after it was switched to a virtual format.
The second presidential debate between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden, slated to take place on October 15, will be held virtually, the Commission on Presidential Debates said on Thursday.
In order to protect the health and safety of all involved with the second presidential debate, scheduled for October 15, 2020, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) announced that the second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which the candidates would participate from separate remote locations.
The debate commission’s decision came days after President Trump and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for coronavirus.
Since Trump’s diagnosis, over a dozen White House staffers have tested positive for coronavirus.
