Woman Critical After Allegedly Drinking Acid from Sealed Water Bottle in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur

Hapur: A woman was left critically ill after allegedly consuming acid from a sealed water bottle at a jewellery shop in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, triggering panic and prompting a police investigation. The shocking incident was captured on CCTV, and authorities are now trying to determine how the hazardous substance ended up inside the bottle.

According to police, the woman, identified as Riya, had visited a jewellery store in Hapur with her mother. Feeling thirsty, she asked for drinking water. The shopkeeper reportedly purchased a sealed bottled water from a nearby general store. Moments after taking two sips, Riya complained of severe burning in her throat, began vomiting and collapsed. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Meerut, where she remains in critical condition.

CCTV footage from the jewellery shop has surfaced, showing the woman receiving the bottle from her mother before taking a few sips. Within seconds, she appears to be in severe distress, while her mother and the shopkeeper rush to help her. The video has since gone viral on social media.

Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the bottle was tampered with during manufacturing, distribution or at the retail level. Officials are examining CCTV footage, collecting samples from the bottle and questioning those connected to the incident. They have also sought forensic analysis to identify the substance consumed by the woman.

Authorities said appropriate legal action will be taken once the investigation establishes how the alleged contamination occurred. The incident has raised serious concerns about consumer safety and the handling of packaged drinking water.
