With 28,637 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, India’s tally nears 8.5 lakh; Death toll at 22,674

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 8,49,553 as it recorded 28,637 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 22,674 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

There are 2,92,258 active cases while 5,34,620 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,46,600 with 10,116 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,34,226 with 1,898 deaths followed by Delhi – 1,10,921 and 3,334 deaths, Gujarat – 40,941 cases and 2,032 fatalities, Karnataka – 36,216 with 613 deaths and Uttar Pradesh – 35092 cases and 913 deaths.

A total of 1,15,87,153 samples have been tested up to July 11 of which 2,80,151 samples were tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
