Voting concludes for final phase of DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir

Voting for the eighth and final phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir was held on Saturday.

The polling for 28 constituencies—13 in Kashmir and 15 in Jammu division began in the morning amid biting cold.

There are a total of 168 candidates in the electoral fray.

Voting was also held for 285 Panch and 84 Sarpanch seats.

The first phase of DDC elections was held on November 28 and saw a voter turnout of 51.76 per cent. The second phase which was held on December 1, saw a voter turnout of 48.62 per cent, the third phase of DDC elections which was held on December 4, witnessed a voter turnout of 50.53 per cent, whereas the fourth phase was held on December 7 and saw voter turnout over 50 per cent. Voting for the fifth phase was held on December 10 and the sixth phase was held on December 13 with a voter turnout of 51.51%. The voting for the seventh phase was held on December 16 and voter turnout was over 57%.

The counting of votes will take place on December 22.
