A massive flood has been reported from Uttarakhand on Sunday, where the water level in Dhauliganga river rose suddenly, following an avalanche near a power project at Raini village in Tapovan area of Chamoli district

Several houses near the bank of Dhauliganga river were destroyed.

ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) have been rushed for rescue operations and NDRF teams are on their way too.

“A disaster has been reported from Chamoli district. The district administration, police and disaster management departments have been directed to deal with the situation. Do not pay attention to any kind of rumours. The Government is taking all necessary steps,” Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said.

“There is also a possibility of flooding in the lower areas of Alaknanda due to sudden arrival in the river. People have been alerted in coastal areas. People settled along the river are being removed from the area,” Rawat said.
