US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has wrapped up his visit to Srinagar and Leh, with his Ladakh tour including a visit to the historic Thiksey Monastery.
Gor arrived in Leh on Thursday as part of his maiden visit to the high-altitude Union Territory. On Friday, he visited Thiksey Monastery, where he explored the historic Buddhist site and experienced its cultural heritage and traditions.

Located around 19 km from Leh, Thiksey Monastery is a prominent 15th-century Gelug monastery known for its distinctive architecture, historic stupas, thangkas and a 48-foot-high statue of Maitreya Buddha.
The visit came after Gor’s engagements in Srinagar earlier this week, where he met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
The US Embassy in India, in a post on X, said Gor had wrapped up his visit to Srinagar and Leh, describing the trip as highlighting the growing US-India partnership through dialogue and cultural engagement.
“In Srinagar, Ambassador Gor met Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and later visited Leh to experience Ladakh’s culture and traditions,” the embassy said.
Gor is among the first serving US ambassadors to India in recent years to undertake a visit to Ladakh, making the trip significant from both diplomatic and cultural perspectives.
