Police today arrested the contractor of an under-construction building that collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on October 14.
District Magistrate Amrit Tripathi said, “The contractor has been arrested. However, the owner hasn’t been traced yet. An investigation is underway.”
The incident occurred in an area under Ram Chandra Mission police station in the district.
Over 60 laborers were working inside the two-storey building when the structure collapsed and three persons were killed and 17 others suffered injuries.
An FIR has also been registered in the case and a magisterial inquiry has also been ordered.
Ramji Mishra, Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate said, “Nearly a dozen labourers were evacuated from the debris, in which we could still see two to three labourers trapped. JCB machines and cranes have been pressed into service to rescue them.”
Teams of National Disaster Response Force were dispatched from Lucknow to the accident site as many people are still feared to be trapped under the debris of the under-construction building.
