The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two alleged Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists from Deoband in Saharanpur district, Director General of Police OP Singh said.
The raid was conducted after receiving specific information about their activities, Singh added.
The two arrested terrorists have been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmed Teli a resident of Kulgam and Aqib from Pulwama.
According to the reports, Shahnawaz Ahmed used to recruit members for the Jaish and also believed to be grenade expert.
The two men were arrested on Thursday from Deoband in Western Uttar Pradesh along with weapons. The anti-terror agency has also seized 32 pistols and live cartridges from the suspects.
Teli and Malik, in their twenties were living in Deoband and were posing as students, Singh said.
OP Singh further said “It is difficult to tell whether the two men came before the Pulwama attack or after that and whether they were linked to it… The probe is on.”
At least 40 troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama. The Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
