Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday morning. The chief minister will discuss the Maratha quota issue, financial aid for cyclone Tauktae relief measures and GST refund in the meeting with PM Modi.
CM Thackeray was accompanied by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Cabinet minister Ashok Chavan. The meeting is taking place over a month after the Supreme Court compressed a 2018 law providing reservation to the Maratha community in jobs and education in the state.
The Supreme Court last week, calling it “unconstitutional” and struck down the quota. “A five-judge bench said the 2018 law for Maratha quota had pushed reservation over the current 50 percent cap.”
The Bombay High Court supported the quota, but its decision was stopped by the Supreme Court.
