Srinagar: Two Indian Army personnel lost their lives after a grenade explosion inside a military camp in the Kamalkote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector in Baramulla district on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred during a shift-change process involving weapons and military equipment at the camp. The grenade reportedly exploded unexpectedly, leaving two soldiers critically injured.
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for emergency treatment. However, doctors declared both soldiers dead upon arrival due to the severity of their injuries.
Army officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the explosion. Initial reports suggest the blast may have been accidental, but authorities are examining all possible angles before reaching a conclusion.
The Uri sector, located close to the Line of Control (LoC), remains one of the most strategically important and sensitive areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces maintain a high level of vigilance in the region due to its proximity to the border and past security challenges.
The Army has not yet released the identities of the deceased personnel. A detailed inquiry is underway, and further information is expected once the investigation is completed.
