Trinamool Congress leaders leave assam after overnight detention

A day after Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders were detained at Assam’s Silchar Airport, six of them left Assam on Friday morning. The two other leaders — MPs Mamatabala Thakur and Arpita Ghosh – will leave the state later in the day.

TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said that they were detained at the airport and not allowed to move out due to which they had to cancel their public meeting. “We spent the night in three rooms at the airport. Police have not allowed us to go out. We request them several times. Now we are going back”.

The TMC leader’s delegation arrived in Assam on Thursday to attend a public convention on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) final draft.

TMC MPs Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Ratna De Nag, Nadimul Haque, Arpita Ghosh, Mamata Thakur and MLA Mohua Moitra, West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim were in the delegation, landed at Silchar airport on Thursday afternoon.
