Bengaluru: A shocking child abuse case has come to light at a daycare centre operating inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru, where five caregivers have been booked after disturbing videos allegedly showed toddlers being subjected to physical abuse and intimidation. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over child safety at workplace crèches.
According to police, the alleged abuse took place at the daycare facility located inside Capgemini’s campus in the city’s Brookefield-HAL area. The case came to light after videos purportedly showing the abuse began circulating on WhatsApp and social media platforms. Following complaints from parents, the HAL police registered an FIR against the daycare in-charge and four caregivers under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The videos allegedly show caregivers punishing children aged between two and three years in disturbing ways. According to the complaint, toddlers were allegedly made to sit inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine, locked inside bathrooms, forced into water-filled pipes and sprayed with water using a toilet jet spray as punishment for crying. The children were also allegedly threatened and intimidated.
Following the allegations, Capgemini announced the temporary closure of the daycare facility and said that the safety and well-being of children remain its highest priority. The company stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Police are currently examining the viral videos and recording statements of parents and staff members to ascertain the full extent of the alleged abuse. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and prompted calls for stricter monitoring and regulation of daycare centres operating within corporate campuses.
