The pioneer of Communist movement in Himachal Pradesh passes away

Comrade Mohar Singh (69) former General Secretary of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) Himachal Pradesh passed away yesterday at PGI. He was admitted in PGI on January 07 after he suffered a massive brain stroke. Party leaders, workers and his family members fulfilled his last wish by donating his body to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla.

Mohar Singh a genius and renowned scholar was the founder member of Students Federation of India (SFI). Under his leadership SFI was established in the state and Himachal Pradesh University in 1977. This student out is a strong force even today.

He remained party’s acting secretary when party secretary Comrade Tara Chand fell ill. In 1991 Comrade Mohar Singh was made state secretary the post he held till 2004.

Due to ill health he abdicated the post and never came on forefront.

In his death party has lost a great fighter. It is a great loss to people’s struggle in the state said Mohinder Nath Sofat a former cabin ate minister in Shanta Kumar Government.
