At least Eleven family members of several policemen have been kidnapped on Thursday evening after terrorists raided the homes of police officers in south Kashmir.
Police sources say the kidnappings are pressure tactics by the terrorists, after the arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin’s son in a terror funding case. Earlier the security forces conducted multiple raids and arrested relatives of some terrorists in the area.
On Wednesday, a policeman’s son was kidnapped from Tral. A distressed family had appealed to the kidnappers to release their son.
A policeman was kidnapped on Thursday, from his home in Pulwama district and released after he was questioned and thrashed.
Terrorists barged into the homes of the policemen and kidnapped their family members in Anantnag, Pulwama and Kulgam districts. Among those abducted includes the brother of a policeman posted in Srinagar and the son of another policeman who works at police training centre as a cook.
Police added that they are working to ensure the safety and release of the policemen’s family members.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah reacted on the situation in the valley. “11 abductions! This is a very worrying reflection of the situation in the valley. What’s worse is the selective outrage – people/leaders who are so vocal about alleged security force excesses are silent about these abductions”, tweeted by Omar Abdullah.
