‘Suspension of 8 MPs unfortunate, reflects Centre’s autocratic mindset’: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday slammed the Central government and termed the suspension of eight MPs from Rajya Sabha as ‘unfortunate’.

Taking to the microblogging site, Mamata in a tweet said, “Suspension of the 8 MPs who fought to protect farmers interests is unfortunate & reflective of this autocratic Govt’s mindset that doesn’t respect democratic norms & principles. We won’t bow down & we’ll fight this fascist Govt in Parliament & on the streets. #BJPKilledDemocracy”

Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused BJP of murdering the democracy and said, “Absolutely unbelievable! @BJP4India MURDERED democracy by ruthlessly silencing all the opposition leaders in Rajya Sabha yesterday. Citizens of the nation, raise your voice before we’re completely under @narendramodi ji’s dictatorship! #BJPKilledDemocracy.”

Earlier on Monday, Eight opposition members were suspended from the Rajya Sabha over the ruckus and chaos in the house during the discussion on farm bills.

TMC’s Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen were among the MPs suspended by Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
