Veteran BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who passed away last night, will be cremated with state honours on Wednesday.
Her body will be kept at the BJP headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg for three hours this afternoon for the party workers and leaders to pay tributes., BJP working president JP Nadda said.
Swaraj’s last rites will be performed at the Lodhi crematorium.
The Delhi government on Wednesday declared a two-day mourning in the national capital as a mark of respect for senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.
“Delhi govt will observe two days state mourning as a mark of respect in the memory of former Chief Minister & senior leader respected Sushma Swaraj ji,” Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said in a tweet.
Swaraj died at Delhi’s AIIMS after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 67.
Political leaders as well as people on social media expressed shock and grief at her sudden death.
Remembering the veteran leader, Prime Minister Modi said a “glorious chapter in Indian politics has come to an end”.
“A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people,” Modi tweeted.
“I can’t forget the manner in which Sushma Ji worked tirelessly as EAM in the last 5 years. Even when her health was not good, she would do everything possible to do justice to her work and remain up to date with matters of her Ministry. The spirit and commitment was unparalleled,” Modi added.
He further said, “Sushma Ji’s demise is a personal loss. She will be remembered fondly for everything that she’s done for India. My thoughts are with her family, supporters and admirers in this very unfortunate hour. Om Shanti.”
Hours before her death, Swaraj in her tweet had congratulated and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the government’s move on Jammu and Kashmir and said that she was waiting to see this day in her lifetime.
