Supreme Court Lawyers Read Constitution’s Preamble in Solidarity With Student Protesters

New Delhi: A group of advocates at the Supreme Court on Thursday gathered during the lunch recess to read the Preamble to the Constitution, expressing solidarity with students protesting at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the recent police action against demonstrators.

The lawyers assembled on the Supreme Court lawns carrying copies of the Constitution and the national flag. They collectively recited the Preamble, reaffirming the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. The event was held under the banner of the “Save Democracy, Save Constitution” campaign.

Several senior advocates, including Indira Jaising and Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh, participated in the gathering. Speaking at the event, the advocates said they were standing with students seeking accountability and fairness in the examination system and voiced concern over the police response to the protests.

The demonstration comes days after clashes at Jantar Mantar during the student-led protest, where allegations of police excesses triggered widespread criticism from opposition leaders, civil society groups and sections of the legal fraternity. Bar associations have also called for an independent inquiry into the police action.

The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy has evolved into a major political issue, with protests continuing in the national capital and several other cities. While the Centre has maintained that it has taken legal and administrative measures against those responsible, protesters continue to demand broader reforms and accountability.
