The Supreme Court today said it will issue a notice to the Centre, and asked for a national plan on COVID – 19 management and related matters including oxygen supply, essential drugs, and vaccination.
“We want to issue notice for a national plan on these issues. We will issue notice and keep the matter tomorrow,” Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde said, as quoted by the legal website.
The SC said it wants the power to clear lockdown to be with states, and it should not be the judicial decision. The apex court will take up the matter for hearing again on Friday.
CJI Bobde said that at least six high courts – Delhi, Bombay Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Calcutta and Allahabad – are considering cases relating to management of the pandemic.
India reported 3.14 lakh COVID-19 cases and 2,104 deaths on April 21 today. This is the highest single-day surge recorded by any country during the pandemic.
